Choosing your database                                                      Issue date 21st Sept 2002

This section applies ONLY if you have purchased Ideas Genie and have used your Licence Number to  register.

After you have registered you have the option of using our “Mini database” as a basis for building your own, or switching to the “Skeleton database” supplied with the system. You may also request a copy of our “Core” database (price on application).

Note that the “Mini database” and the “Skeleton database” are identical for Purchased copies and Evaluation copies.

The Mini database.

There are 100+ plants in the “Mini database. Here are some facts to consider.

You cannot “hide” these simply by defining a new gardener etc. They will remain in your database and are accessible to all Gardeners.

You can delete un-wanted plants at any time.

You can opt to switch to the Skeleton database at any time up to your first “System backup” to the Ideas Genie default backup folder.

Now that Ideas Genie is registered, you have many more interesting “Alternative data sources” options:

You can define an alternative backup folder on your PC hard disk to use for backups

You can define an alternative backup folder on a CD Rewriter or better still, a DVD drive. This is the obvious recommended option.

You can access and study the original database’s on the Ideas Genie installation CD. After you insert the CD, cancel the Auto installer and the folders will be accessible.

The Skeleton database

If you are building a specialized database you may wish to start with the skeleton database.

There are only a handful of plants, one or two per Genus, in the skeleton database, retained as “pegs” to retain Division Classification data.

((If you delete a Genus, the Division Classification structure of that Genus is also deleted)

To use the “Skeleton Database” proceed to the section “Restoring the Skeleton Database

When you have selected and installed your chosen database you are ready to move on to the section “More Recommended Tutorials
