The most obvious place to look for information is on your packet of seeds.
For more information and photos, you can use the Google buttons and the BBC buttons which come
with Ideas Genie, and appear throughtout the system for your convenience.
To continue from the previous session, lets continue using GA027.
- Start GA027
- Edit one of the plants you added in the previous session
(Simply double click on a plant in the initial screen - GA027S01)
- Screen GA100S40 appears, now in edit mode
- Click the Google Search button
See Google button in this screenshot
- An instance of Internet Explorer is opened in Screen GA100S33
Ideas Genie has launched a Google search for you, for the full name of the plant Screenshot
- Browse the search results as normal and click to visit sites which are known to offer good information.
- When you find useful text to use in your Plant Data field, you can do 2 things:
Screenshot
1) Copy the data to the clipboard as normal -or- 2) Copy the data, click on the Surf Board button, and paste the data into the surf board Click Done
on the surfboard screen. This closes the surfboard and saves you data.
- Still in GA100S33, note that the URL for the web page you are viewing is shown in the text field just under the Surf Board button
Screenshot
Click the + button. Ideas Genie saves the URL to the top of the Surf Board (without opening it) You can (of course) click the Surf Board
button to validate that it is saved.
- You can surf other sites, and accumulate more data and more URL’s in the surfboard.
- When finished copying data in screen GA100S33, click the Done button.
- Screen GA100S44 reappears
Click the surfboard button on that screen (it appears in all data entry screens in Ideas Genie)
Copy the data from the SurfBoard and paste it into the Plant Data field Screenshot
- Save changes
Repeat the process above for each of your plants. This (and the information saved below) will be used when you proceed to add Tasks.
Alternative process- gathering more information:
- Use GA004
- Edit a plant, and get into GA100S36
- Use Google Search as described above
- This time, go searching for general cultural information.
- Find data on good web sites and save data to clipboard
- On return to GA100S36, save the data in data region provided by using the controls under the Cultivation tab
See screenshot
When you save the data in the Plant Data field, it can only be seen when you edit that plant. When you save information in the Cultivation (and Genus etc) data fields, it
is visible for every plant in the Genus.
