About Ideas Genie - Program GA600

Where are the Ideas Genie Programs and Data files?
On the main menu Help tab, start the program About Ideas Genie
The program name is GA600
Vital information about your installation is shown in the initial screen
Screenshot GA600S01-1
When you install Ideas Genie, all the necessary DATA files are installed in one single folder
We shall refer to this folder as the Core Data folder

What happens when I open another database?
When you open another Ideas Genie database, Ideas Genie closes your live data files and opens files of the same name in the other folder.
The Vital Information about the locations of your data files now look like this:

NOTE:
Some Core Data files remain open at all times, even when you open another database.
These are referred to as static files.
Files which keep track of your User Preferences are one simple example of Static files.
Thus, your User Preferences (Font, Font size, Screen sizes and positions etc) are not affected when you use multiple databases.

Background to the origin of this program

Once upon a time (all good stories start like that) software developers could store all files related to an application (such as Ideas Genie) in one folder.
This was great for the developer, but not for the user. Their prime concern was to be able to backup their precious data, and if the data was in the same folder as the program files (referred to as executables) then they had to back up everything to be on the safe side.

The introduction of Windows Vista changed all that. In brief, programs and data are not permitted to reside in the same folder.
In my experience, product support (for products by ideasforgardens.com) became much more difficult, as navigating to the file locations demanded by the UAC (User Account Control) was beyond the capability of those less adept in finding their way around folder structures.

The program About Ideas Genie was developed to ease the pain.
In one single screen, the user is shown the location of the programs and data files for Ideas Genie.
A Print button is provided, so a hard copy printout can be retained for reference.
