About the program
This program allows you to Restore data files from a Ideas Genie backup or other database.
The program:-

  • makes use of your Database Stamps and Data Location Records to provide vital information about the backup you are restoring.
  • Displays a list of known databases in a Restore FROM pop-up list.
The known databases include Backups made with the backup Program GA681. Since all known databases are listed, the program also lists databases created using the
    program New - GA696.
  • Provides vital information about the origin of each database which you select (by using the pop-up)
This allows you to make a wise decision about which database to restore

Ideas Genie attempts to place the known databases (listed in the pop-up in Step 1) in the order you are most likely to make a selection

  • Databases known to be Backups come first, in the order Most recent to Oldest, since you will most likely choose to restore data from the most recent backup.
  • Other databases follow, including Databases created using the program New - GA696
even though it is unlikely that you will Restore data from a New database.

More info:
Ideas Genie keeps track of all your backups using Data Location Records. These are shared by other file handling programs in the system - e.g. Open - GA626, Backups - GA681 and Pack - GA692

If you are unsure as to which database to restore, you can view the contents using the program Open another database- GA626. Once opened, the database can be explored as normal using all the programs in Ideas Genie.

Its functionality is similar to GA692S03 and instructions are the same. The difference is “behind the scenes” to the user.

These screens allow you to double check your selections.
In each case, review your selections and click the Do Restore button to complete the task

Restoring a backup which is NOT known on the computer
Explain by example:- If your backup is on a removable disk (say a Flash drive) and you connect it to another computer for the first time it will not be known to that computer.

In this case, start by creating a new Data Location Record as follows.
Click the Get a folder button as shown here
Screenshot
Screen GA100S68 appears
Screenshot
This screen allows you to search for the folder on your removable disk.
Click Get a folder in this screen
The following screenshot takes you through the other simple steps:
Screenshot

Features in this program
Some features are identical to those described in the User Guide section for the Backup - GA691 program. To avoid repetition, read over the features in that section
Heres a summary of the screenshots:

  • History - Screenshot
  • More buttons - When you click a More button Screen GA626S04 appears Screenshot
  • Deleting history - Screenshot
  • Ideas Genie will display a warning message if you happen to select a Data Location Record which points to an external drive and that drive is not plugged in to your computer.
The message is similar to this one in the Backup program,
